About
Born and raised in Miami, Florida where I received a B.S. in aerospace engineering from the University of Florida and a degree in Aviation Administration from Miami Dade College of Aviation. I worked at Boeing Seattle doing logistics support analysis. I freelanced photography for several years.
Computers, Games, Programming
I’ve been hooked on computers since I was 12, first playing SkiFree and a “free 100 games demo cd” on some secondhand system running Windows 95. I eventually got a Compaq and was browsing Microsoft Encarta. We were gettings dozens of AOL cds in the mail and I eventually figured out how to get connected to the internet. At the time commercials were showing world wide web addresses and I was copying them by hand to visit them later when I got to my computer. Now, since computer gaming was a major part of my youth, I’ll mention it here.
I played many online games through AOL Games and Gamestorm. These included Warcraft 2, Splatterball Online, Legends of Kesmai, Darkness Falls, Multiplayer Battletech, and Rolemaster Magestorm. I played Diablo and Starcraft on Battle.net and got hooked onto Everquest as soon as it came out after a brief interlude in Ultima Online. Some of my favorite computer games of all time are SimTower, Splatterball Online, Starcraft, Diablo, Counter-Strike, and Dark Age of Camelot.
Nowadays, instead of playing, I am learning game development for the web and on native using Javascript and Rust (Bevy). The games I prefer the most (to play and develop) tend to be more simulation, emergent gameplay, and systems oriented ala Factorio, Dwarf Fortress, SimAnt, and Eve Online.
Engineering
My early affinity for math and computing led me to pursue many things digital, virtual, and abstract. I decided to go to school for engineering because I was persuaded toward what was seen as a better career over the at-the-time less illustrious new kid on the block computer science. I worked at Boeing for several years in logistics support, interfacing with commercial and military systems and people, in support of an awesome platform called the P-8.
Photography
I started my interest in photography by visiting “the photographer’s fence” at Miami International Airport and capturing airplanes as they landed and took off. This was driven in part by my passion for gadgets and technology, I wanted to understand how to operate a camera and take good pictures with it!
Some 5 odd years later, I picked up a camera again and found myself shooting nature, landscapes, and sports. I freelanced headshot, real estate, and event photography for several years and volunteered for various photography and event organizations in the area. My passion today lies invariably with nature and unexpected moments.
Computer Programming
My fascination with computers led me to try visual basic when I was 12, working through a thick book🔗 on how to build a retail store order GUI in Visual Basic 6. That was followed by taking a computer science class in high school. There was a compulsory C++ course for engineers at university which I rather enjoyed and got to program in a numerical methods course at the time.
I’ve somehow persisted an interest in programming over the years. As such, I’m currently pursuing web development, game design and development, and have an active interest in networking and distributed systems.
